The 2nd annual Legal Empowerment Leadership Course (Budapest, 10 - 14 Oct 2016)

The application period for the 2nd annual Legal Empowerment Leadership Course is now closed. We received over 400 applications from 78 countries, an amazing level of interest in this groundbreaking course. For those who applied, the selection committee will be in contact in the coming weeks. Thank you.

We are pleased to announce that registration is open for the second annual Legal Empowerment Leadership Course.

The course is a collaboration between the Central European University, BRAC University, South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies, The Open Society Justice Initiative, and Namati.

Over 400 people from 79 countries applied to this one-of-a-kind course last year at the Central European University (CEU) - the largest number of applicants CEU has received for any course in its history. The course evaluations were the highest they’ve seen.

The course will be structured around three case studies: citizenship rights in Bangladesh and Kenya, the right to health in India, and the evolution of the legal empowerment movement in the Philippines.

International experts will also lead sessions on issues such as how to take case data and translate it into systemic change and how to improve financial sustainability of community justice services while bringing them to scale. Additional sessions will discuss the history of the movement, best practices for teaching communities their legal rights, and the latest impact evidence in the field.

The course runs from 10 October to 14 October 2016 in Budapest, Hungary.

Scholarships are available to a limited number of applicants, applications are due no later than July 3rd 2016.

We invite applications from representatives of civil society organizations, governments, development agencies, and universities.

Join us in moving legal empowerment forward.

In solidarity,

Michael and the team supporting the Global Legal Empowerment Network
